The Founder

The Traveling Outdoorsman was founded by Joey Deck, who has more than 20 years of experience hunting whitetail deer, wild turkey, small game, and waterfowl. His knowledge of the outdoors and background as a Project Engineer shapes how this site approaches hunting. Problems get broken down. Systems get analyzed. Decisions get backed by observation and data, not guesses.

Why This Site Exists

The hunting content I grew up reading came from writers who were in the woods for the same reasons as you and I. Somewhere along the way a lot of online hunting content stopped feeling like that. It started feeling like paid advertising with a camo header.

I built The Traveling Outdoorsman to put hunter to hunter writing back in front of people who actually hunt. If you’re new and trying to call in your first bird or kill your first whitetail, you’ll find articles written for you. If you’ve been doing this for twenty years, you’ll find tactics, debates, and field notes worth your time.
